For you · Speech-language pathologists

A between-sessions companion you can trust.

Calm Speech is a non-clinical daily companion for adults and older teens who stutter. It tracks effort rather than fluency, so it supports the work you do in session instead of quietly pulling against it.

The gap between appointments

Your clients see you for an hour. They live the other hundred and sixty-seven, and that is where avoidance, anticipation and self-talk do most of their work.

Most apps that fill that gap are built on fluency-scoring. A client who has spent a session doing careful desensitisation work then opens an app that grades their speech and reintroduces the idea that fluency is the measure of a good day. Calm Speech is built so that never happens.

How it fits clinical practice

Effort tracking, not fluency

Recorded activity is participation only: check-ins, sessions chosen, reflections written. There is no disfluency measurement in the product.

Client autonomy by design

Nothing is assigned or sequenced. The client chooses what to open, which supports the self-management goals you set.

Affirming language throughout

No cure framing, no “correction”, and no correcting stammer to stutter. Techniques are offered as options, never as prescriptions.

Respects the therapeutic relationship

It doesn’t diagnose, doesn’t give clinical advice, and points people back to their SLP.

Questions

Can I recommend it to clients?

Yes. That’s the intended use. It’s designed to be recommendable without you having to caveat the fluency-scoring or cure claims most apps arrive with.

Does it replace therapy?

No, and the product says so plainly to users. It carries no assessment, no treatment plan and no clinical advice.

How does effort tracking fit stutter-affirming practice?

Effort is participation, which is inside the client’s control and doesn’t moralise variability. It reinforces approach behaviour instead of rewarding fluent-sounding days.

What age range is it for?

Adults and older teens. It is not designed for early intervention with young children.

Will there be a clinician view of client data?

Not at launch. Reflections are private to the user, and we won’t change that without asking the community first.
